Making Your Hobby a Job
Most people who do any online writing become obsessed with traffic numbers and number of followers. But, you need not worry about those issues, you need to stick to your roots, do what comes easy for you and then good things will happen.
A few months ago I met a blogger named Buck. He was testing the waters of social media on a broad scale and since he had been blogging in one form or another online since 2005, it was time for him to move forward. He seemed unsure where to go next and how to get to the next level though. I am definitely not an expert in that department but you know, 2 brains are better than one. So, we came up with some ideas and our first try at working an angle together failed. So, we waited. In the meantime, I shot him more ideas along the way and we brainstormed together. Then, as I was preparing for my first party at Blogher in July of this year, he sent me an email stating that he had received information regarding a partial sponsorship to a conference. I was thrilled, he was thrilled, it was absolutely hysterical the email exchange we had for a few minutes.
Here it is a couple of months later and he is on the speaking circuit now with some conferences in Memphis. You can hear him speak this weekend at Social Camp Memphis and you can read about him and this conference on Paul Ryburn’s site. Here’s what he had to say about our up and coming star
“Buck Daddy is among the bloggers/social media experts who will be attending SocialCamp this weekend. Sounds like a great event, but just about any event is a “not attending” for me when scheduled concurrently with Cooper-Young. September-October and April-May are tough times to schedule events because so much goes on in this town.”
If you are interested in hearing Buck speak, you can still register by going to the Social Camp Memphis site and then you can hear Buck speak for yourself. And, he has another speaking engagement coming up later called BarCamp Memphis which has yet to get their schedule all nailed down, but as soon as the details are all ironed out, you can be sure to see more information about Buck here and on his own blog, Buck Daddy Blog.
In the meantime, he is one of our own Blogalogues authors as well, you can catch him on 15 Minutes of Pop. So, find him at his personal blog, his blogalogues blog or even on Twitter (@buckdaddy) and say congrats if you have time….I know he will appreciate it.
